Interview with Lithuania’s media ombudsman
In 1991, Lithuania became the first post-Soviet country to declare its independence from the USSR and quickly embarked on building a modern state based on democratic values. This path required profound changes not only in the economic and political spheres but also in one of the fundamental pillars of society: the media.
Despite the challenges of the transformation period, Lithuania has achieved significant progress in this field, establishing exemplary models for freedom of expression, journalistic ethics, and the protection of public interests. An integral part of this model is the institution of the media ombudsman, which plays a key role in ensuring a balanced and fair information environment for both society and journalists.
